4 Reasons December Is Surprisingly Favorable For Buyers

1) Less competition, better prices: even though inventory might be a bit lower than during the peak seasons, most buyers are not in the market, removing the often fierce competition we see in the spring. Also, buyers tend to fare better during negotiations in the winter months for the same reason.

2) More time to look/shop: Because the market is less saturated, we see homes on the market for a bit longer, allowing buyers to take a little more time in their search.

3) Tax Benefits: even though we don't know what will happen with the tax proposal(s), buying before the end of the year can still allow you to reap the tax benefits as they currently stand.

4) Renovations made easier: along with the slower season in real estate, a lot of contractors are also slow, allowing you to negotiate a better deal on certain work. Also, things like painting and hardwood floors (install or refinishing) fare much better in the winter months than they do with the humidity in the summer.
